The Season One of the wettest seasons in years, starting slow after a cold and humid winter and spring. Intense rainfall increased the vigor of the vines, requiring extra work in terms of canopy management. Moderate ripening conditions during harvest led to above average yields of exceptional quality, with intense colour and extraordinary flavour.
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Petit Verdot; selected from six different vineyards across the Western Cape area. Harvest Extreme care and intensive selection. Grapes are hand picked in small batches, carefully hand destemmed and meticulously sorted twice prior to gentlemanualcrushing.
Alcoholic fermentation in both new French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks, with strict temperature control and regular breaking of the cap for optimal extraction. Maturation 18 months in mostly new French oak barrels from seven different cooperages.
Tasting Notes: Deep purple with an opaque black core. Exceptional tight knit bouquet of black cherries, dark forest berries, cassis, sloe cordial, hints of oriental spices, liquorice, black olives, truffles, mocha, and underbrush. Overwhelming richness on the palate but trans- parently fanned-out and perfectly balanced by a subtle acidity. A marvellously fine-grained and velvety tannin coats the impressive body. The multi-layered aroma of tart dark berries, damson and sloe evolves; backed by a striking mine- rality with hints of cigar box, pencil shavings, and iodine. Subtle warmth in the extremely long lasting finish. Captivating personality and impressive presence, but without any aggressiveness.
