Weingut Kirsten
This winery is located in one of the best locations along the Mosel river. It has vineyards with an incline of up tp 86% requesting hand work only. Bernhard Kirsten is know to consequently ensure the quality of his wines not only in the cellar but mainly in the vineyard. Rigid pruning and picking of the grapes when they are most aromatic are the main criteria of his work. This results in wines that express the Mosel characteristics perfectly.
Even his dry wines do not lose the typoical fruity aromas of the Moselriesling. For us his style so far is unmatched.
Riesling 1904
Ungrafted vines planted in 1904, in a quader of 0,80 x 0,80 meter – a vineyard that is in family's hand since Napoleon sold it in the beginning oft he 19th century. A piece in the steep hills of Longuich/Mosel that makes you breathe history. A very gentle and tender Riesling from vines that produce a very small crop every year: low alcohol but very aromatic. The 2015 „1904" comes semi dry with an elegant touch of sugar: 11,5 % by volume, 17 g/L residual sugar, 7,1 g/l acid
This is an unusually brawny late-harvest wine. It's deeply fruity, almost tropical in profile, bursting with sun-kissed mango and guava flavors. High-toned tangerine and grapefruit acidity lend balance, highlighting a delicately astringent, tea-toned finish. Drink now through 2030.
